Rebecca Schott United Airlines Flight Attendant Closes Overhead Compartments With Legs On Instagram

Rebecca Schott might be United Airlines best social media marketing secret weapon - ever. The United flight attendant made an Instagram stir by turning herself upside down in a kind of gymnastics move where she supports her body on the arm chairs of two seats on either end of the walkway of the United Boeing 737 she generally flies for work, then hoisting up her legs into the air and placing her heels on two open overhead compartments, then pushing on them to close them. You have to see it to believe it. More people should because they would see the fun side of United. And why not? If Southwest Airlines can be known for a rapping flight attendant United Airlines should be known for an athletic one! Stay tuned!

Brian Baldinger Of NFL Network Feuds With Zennie Abraham Of Zennie62 Over NY Jets QB Situation

Brian Baldinger Of NFL Network Feuds With Zennie Abraham Of Zennie62 over Bridgewater vs Darnold at QB. It’s simple. NY Jets Teddy Bridgewater has played better in NFL Preseason than Sam Darnold, whom the Gang Green took with the 3rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Brian Baldinger who is my friend over at the NFL Network disagrees. He says that the Jets should start Darnold because they took him with the third pick. Under that logic, I should buy a fur coat and wear it in 80 degree weather just because it’s expensive! First, I would never buy a fur coat and second I would not use it in 80 degree weather! The fact is Teddy Bridgewater has outplayed Darnold in the NFL Preseason and upended the NY Jets QB plans. The Jets actually thought Teddy Bridgewater was going to be some expendable journeyman quarterback! How silly! Rather than be happy with having a rich stable of passers, the Jets being the Jets have to make it a zero sum game. Baldinger is wrong. Darnold is the bad choice. He will not win for the Jets because he is not ready for the regular season speed of the game. Teddy Bridgewater comes ready to play and lead. He’s a proven leader. Let him go to work. Stay tuned.

Jovanka Beckles Lands Wellstone Club Endorsement Over Buffy Wicks Due To CA Prop 10

Richmond City Councilmember Jovanka Beckles landed the Wellstone Democratic Club Endorsement Over Buffy Wicks by a whopping margin and due to California Prop 10. Proposition 10 is the California Affordable Housing Act on the November 2018 ballot. If passed, it would get rid of the Costa Hawkins legislation that has allowed property owners to raise rent by up to three times market value once a unit is vacated in a rent controlled dwelling. This has produced epidemically high rates of illegal evictions in California, as landlords sought to take advantage of the tech fueled boom in housing demand. Buffy Wicks believes that Costa Hawkins can be “fixed” but what she misses is that many believe such a process takes too long with respect to the growing problem of homelessness. That is why Wicks lost to Beckles at Wellstone. Stay tuned.

Senator John McCain Dies At 81, America Loses A True Statesman

Senator John McCain Dies At 81, and America is in mourning. The Arizona Senator was a person who worked to get both Republicans and Democrats to come together and solve the major problems of our day. There are scores of examples of John McCain going against his own Republican Party and siding with Democrats on issues. And McCain did not take the bait and side with conservatives who believed that then Senator and Presidential Candidate Barack Obama was Muslim. There is even a famous moment where a woman tried to says that at one of McCain’s rallies and the Senator took the mic from her. That was a big deal moment for me. I became a fan of John McCain. America will miss John McCain, and as much as I hate to say this , there are few like him, even though there should be many more like him. Stay tuned.

Barack Obama Statement On The Passing Of Sen John McCain

Barack Obama Statement On The Passing Of Sen John McCain John McCain and I were members of different generations, came from completely different backgrounds, and competed at the highest level of politics. But we shared, for all our differences, a fidelity to something higher – the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed. We saw our political battles, even, as a privilege, something noble, an opportunity to serve as stewards of those high ideals at home, and to advance them around the world. We saw this country as a place where anything is possible – and citizenship as our patriotic obligation to ensure it forever remains that way. Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did. But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own. At John’s best, he showed us what that means. And for that, we are all in his debt. Michelle and I send our most heartfelt condolences to Cindy and their family.

City Of Oakland Can Buyout Alameda County Share Of Coliseum, But Shouldn’t - Here’s Why

The City of Oakland can buyout the County of Alameda's "share" of the Oakland Coliseum. That's contrary to a media report stating that the City of Oakland could not do that. Further, I know for a fact the Mayor of Oakland did not say that in a report on a meeting with business leaders last week. But the fact is, the City of Oakland can afford to pay for the County of Alameda's share of the Oakland Coliseum. But the City of Oakland should not give the County of Alameda one dime for the Coliseum. And reason is simple: the County of Alameda is essentially forcing Oakland into a place where it spends public money just so the County can get a free-ride on new revenue from a privately-financed ballpark, even if it's built at Howard Terminal at Jack London's Waterfront. See, the County of Alameda gets 35 percent of each property tax dollar. So if a ballpark is constructed at Howard Terminal, the County of Alameda gets rich off the land speculation from property being bought up around the proposed stadium. Then it gets money from the Oakland A's. The City of Oakland is less $90 million (which is about what it would take to buy out the Coliseum debt exposure). So the County of Alameda wins not just by getting Oakland's buyout, but then by the activity of a privately financed stadium - which pays property taxes. Also, the County of Alameda, in pulling out of the Coliseum, takes its debt capacity with it, too. That also hurts the City of Oakland, which needs the County's credit to more easily build structures at the Coliseum, where private financing needs to be helped. That's not right and it makes Oakland look like a complete sucker. Just say "NO" Mayor Schaaf. Just say no. Rather, the County of Alameda should recognize the fact that Oakland bears the brunt of the operating cost and infrasture service cost to the Coliseum, and just ask that the City of Oakland fashion a deal that earns money for the County, too. And the County should remember that we have an emergency-level homeless problem that we have yet to solve. Stay tuned.

Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Bond Debt Not Covered By Hotel Tax Revenue Says Muni Banker

The Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Bond Debt Not Covered By Hotel Tax Revenue says a municipal investment banker friend of mine, today. He's been in the business for almost 20 years, and finally took a look at my analysis, and texted back this message: "The article was post sale. Also, the bds are a ltgo. So, any shortfall will be covered by property taxes. Not the general fund. Not to say this isn’t a bad deal. Most publicly financed stadiums are. But, if this deal goes belly up. Home owners in lv on the hook for it. " To which I replied..Which is exactly my point. Jessica Colvin, Clark County Finance Director, SPECIFICALLY TOLD me that would not happen, on the record, and as a reaction to my assertion it would. Because that is the political issue in Nevada. The stadium tax revenue is not covering the bond debt and it will not. This comes as the Clark County School District laid off 500 people as a result of two $60 million deficits. So the next step is to keep your name out of this. And report the problem. But thanks He said “Nice. Just keep me/firm out of it.“ The fact is, the stadium hotel tax revenue, which has actually shrank by two percent over a 12 month period, is also too small to produce a base of money that can pay for the $650 million bond issue, with its monthly debt coverage ratio. But it's OK - Clark County Taxpayers will foot the bill, contrary to what they were told.

Atlanta Super Bowl 53 Volunteers Wont Get NFL Super Bowl Tickets, But Will Get Something Special

Hi Atlanta! I am Zennie Abraham. I have the unique place in life of being a Super Bowl Host City Bid Director (for Oakland), media at the Super Bowl, a Super Bowl attendee with a ticket, and a Super Bowl Volunteer. I made this message because there is something I want to share with you. The Atlanta Super Bowl is approaching and the Atlanta Super Bowl 53 Host Commitee has done a terrific job of working to get over 10,000 people to be volunteers - like you! Now that you have signed up, here is some news: you don’t get free Super Bowl Tickets. Nope. Not even half-off. What you get as an Atlanta Super Bowl 53 Volunteer is an incredible chance to meet great people: the folks who work with you. All are giving their time to be part of something literally bigger than themselves. The Super Bowl is an amazing experience in human energy and human sprit. There is no better drug than the kickoff of a Super Bowl Game - especially in a domed stadium. But if you can’t afford a ticket, being a volunteer is just as cool and for a reason not listed on the Atlanta Host Committee website: you are “in the know” during the two-week Super Bowl period. Just by forming networks and doing your job as a volunteer, you will become an expert on the happenings and score invitations to events that others didn’t even know were going on. That happens as a result of who you know and get to know. So got out and make it fun. You are the person who makes the Super Bowl and Atlanta fun for Super Bowl Attendees. Remember that 70 percent of Super Bowl goers are there for the first time and that means there is a 70 percent chance they will not be back. Make this one time special for them and in the process you will have the time of your life! Welcome to Atlanta and Super Bowl 53!

Statement From President And Mrs. Barack Obama On The Passing Of Aretha Franklin

Statement From President And Mrs. Barack Obama On The Passing Of Aretha Franklin America has no royalty. But we do have a chance to earn something more enduring. Born in Memphis and raised in Detroit, Aretha Franklin grew up performing gospel songs in her father’s congregation. For more than six decades since, every time she sang, we were all graced with a glimpse of the divine. Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. She helped us feel more connected to each other, more hopeful, more human. And sometimes she helped us just forget about everything else and dance. Aretha may have passed on to a better place, but the gift of her music remains to inspire us all. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. Michelle and I send our prayers and warmest sympathies to her family and all those moved by her song.

Do Denver Broncos Post Threat To Oakland Raiders? NFL Lawsuit Update

On this Zennie62 Livestream on Monday night, Zennie Abraham talked with his viewers about the awful performance of the Denver Broncos against the Minnesota Vikings and asked if they posted a real threat to the Oakland Raiders? The Broncos were hammered 28 to 42 by the Vikings and in Denver. But the statistics show that Denver had a strong running attack and their defense held the Vikings to 4 yards per rush, but they were not able to control the Vikings passing game. The answer was that Denver had to work on pass rush and pass defense. On the matter of the problem with Paxton Lynch, Zennie Abraham believes that the plays he was asked to run were "not smart" as he put it, and "the Broncos did not put Lynch in a good game plan." Many Zennie62 fans believe the Broncos will not do well this year in the AFC West against the Raiders. But the Silver and Black, while posting a promising defensive line, appear to have a secondary that is still not quite at the ball-hawking level of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Secondary. Then the talk turned to the "NFL Lawsuit" update. Zennie said that we should expect the City of Oakland to vote on the proposed "NFL Lawsuit" in late September. As to Oakland Raiders President Marc Badain's claim the Raiders would leave the Coliseum, Abraham said that the "Raiders under Al Davis would stay in Oakland and fight via a lawsuit - Al Davis would not run away from a fight, but these guys act like they're afraid. Afraid of a lawsuit. Afraid of the truth about the Las Vegas Stadium. And afraid to talk to me. True Oakland Raiders fear nothing. Maybe they're already out o Oakland? Stop being afraid!" Oakland Lesleigh Franklin Threatens Jordan Cordova For Parking While Brown, Shows Racism Is Mental

Oakland, once again, the the focus of a racist incident captured on social media.  Here, Oakland's Jordan Cordova and his friends are being harassed by Lesleigh Franklin, and for nothing more than parking their car in an open public spot, which just happened to be in front of Ms. Franklin's home.  This happened on Saturday, August 4th.  Mr. Cordova posted his account on Facebook: "On Saturday August 4th, my family and I were on our way to a party. So we parked on public parking, in front of the white womans house in this video. This woman began to confront us and began yelling at us without reason. Keep in mind that as soon as I saw her come out of her home, I sincerely asked her why she wanted us to leave. Never did i disrespect her in any way. She wanted us to leave, as we refused she approached our car and tried to open the doors. That's when I began recording because we felt attacked and we know these situations have happened already to black and brown people because of how we look. This woman targeted us AND even questioned our status in this country. I ask people to share and find who this women who claims is immigrants attorney. Quick Note: I am a High School Student and a proud Salvadorean in East Oakland California." Lesleigh Franklin, the woman,  is not an immigration lawyer,  Lesleigh Franklin is, and now was, the CEO of The East Bay Family Institute, and a licensed clinical psychologist who has described herself as "working with diverse populations in both school based and clinical settings for over 20 years."  It was, until recently and after this incident, a position she held since 2010.  On her Linkedin page, Romana A. Norton, Ph.D. described Lesleigh Franklin as a "Incredible colleague with a passion for social justice."  Marisol Reyna, is both Lesleigh Franklin's partner and the co-founder of The East Bay Family Institute.  And there's a photo of Franklin spread on a lawn chair on Reyna's Facebook page.  Reyna has reported that Franklin stepped away from the business, but given that they are co-founders and live-together, such a claim may be to put up a cosmetic front that she's separated from the business which she's really a part of it -  and perhaps to protect Franklin from the public complaints against her.  Another Racist Incident In Oakland First, it must be said that being in an interracial relationship does not wash-away any person's desire to be racist.  I recall the late sports anchor Doug Murphy of KPIX San Francisco, who used to come to the old King's X Bar on Piedmont and Pleasant Valley in Oakland after work, get drunk, and refer to his Indonisian wife (who was not in the bar with him) in the most vile, racist language he could come up with, then loudly proclaim he loved her.  Second, the unanswered question is why are these occurences suddenly, this year, springing up?  t's noted that extreme racism is a mental illness, but why do more of these problems happen now?  Is it increased drug use in the wake of legalized marijuana?  Many drug use studies focus on racism as a cause of drug use of people of color but does increased drug use make a person more racist?  Something, clearly, is wrong.  It should be illegal in Oakland for a person to threaten to use law enforcement against a person taking on a common social action, like parking the car in a legally designated area, or cooking in a legal area, or sitting at a bus stop.   The Oakland Cty Council must take steps to stop this behavior in its tracks.  Stay tuned. -- Phone: 510-517-7565 Visit my new blog:https://ift.tt/2zEJT5V Oakland's longest active blogger.  Also, Zennie Abraham may use emails for publication if a story warrants unless otherwise noted. Given his timely and well considered speeches before the Oakland City Council, and the problems of class and race division that Oakland has faced of late, I recently asked him to give his view of The State Of Oakland 2018.

Lions vs Oakland Raiders, Return Of Jon Gruden To NFL Ends With Win

Jon Gruden’s Oakland Raiders best the Detroit Lions 16 to 10, and gave the coach called Chucky his first win in returning to NFL Football as Head Coach of the Silver and Black. The highlights were many: 1) A multiple offense that moved the quarterback pocket. 2) A bruising running game that relied on blocking description. Marshawn Lynch ran around end for 70 yards and a touchdown that was called back for a questionable holding call on the rookie Kolton Miller. Chris Warren emerged as a star with over 80 yards rushing and 8 yards per carry. 3) A defensive line that crushes pass pockets and featured several young stars in the making, most notably P.J Hall. The lowlights were few: Nine penalties leading fans to observe that Gruden did bring back the old Raiders style in another way. But, in all, Jon Gruden brought the fun back to Oakland Raiders Football! And that was just the first game of preseason. One issue I can see is the huddle. Hopefully Gruden has a no huddle package to speed up the offense. But overall the Raiders don’t get off the ball on offense as fast as the Baltimore Ravens of this year. They are the leaders in that area of playing fast, along with.the Cleveland Browns. Stay tuned.

Jesse Smith Gets Signatures At Peet’s Coffee In Run For Mayor Of Oakland

Jesse Smith sets virtual office for Mayor of Oakland Run. The new Peet’s Coffee on Broadway and Telegraph Avenue in Downtown Oakland at 1615 Broadway, has already become a community center. Because of its location right smack in the middle of the central business district of Oakland, you are likely to no only see someone you know but also someone you should know. In his hunt for signatures for his run for Mayor Of Oakland, Jeese Smith could be found at Peet’s, and he wasn’t hanging out for free pastries. Smith needs at least 50 good signings to be on the ballot. The last time he and I talked about this, the Oakland Police critic had 60 standard signatures and 7 “sponsor” signatures. One of the standard signatures is mine. Simple reason: anyone who is trying to show that anyone can run for the office of Mayor of Oakland, deserves my “John Hancock”. Considering the number of people in Oakland who complain about government, it’s weird to have only 17 people running for Mayor - and that is a record! There should be at least 100 of them. To date, Jesse has based his campaign in one Twitter account and failed to make any public speeches or press conferences - until last night, when he went to the Oakland weed industry candidates forum, and gave a speech he tweeted about later, saying he was the only person running who didn’t talk about himself. Well, there is nothing wrong with talking about yourself and the whole point is to talk about yourself. But Jesse is obviously gaining confidence in himself - will it be enough to increase his visibility in the Mayoral Race? Well, he has to be certified by the Oakland City Clerk, first. Stay tuned.

Cowboys vs 49ers NFL Preseason 2018 Livestream Talk With Zennie62

Much of this livestream was spent posting a blog at Oakland News Now that is an update on the Oakland A's at Howard Terminal, as my friend and source Vivian Kahn, contacted me to let me know I was correct about speculating that she was in opposition to the ballpark proposal. This is what she wrote: “My old friend Zennie has blown my cover. Although our property values would increase if the Howard Terminal site is where the A’s land, I oppose this location and Bonta’s as bad planning. Bonta’s legislation may be appropriate with respect to the Coliseum site, which would be true infill development, but that is not the case for Howard Terminal. Although the Howard Terminal site is currently developed for port use, some of which occurred prior to the passage of CEQA, development of a ballpark would be a significant change of land use with both economic as well as environmental implications for the western part of the Jack London district, which is now a great mix of light industrial, maker spaces, and retail. Moreover, although the Coliseum site already has a specific plan that was subject to environmental review, no such plan yet exists for the Howard Terminal. In fact, the proposed development of a ball park is not even consistent with the Estuary Plan, which functions as the City’s current planning policies applicable to the site. This is one of the reasons why I eagerly supported development of a Specific Plan for Downtown Oakland, which includes the Jack London district south of Interstate 880. Unfortunately, regretfully due to poor decisions by the Oakland Planning Department, that effort has not yet generated a plan.” Then, after some time, I focused on the NFL talk. The best team right now is not the LA Rams, who were clobbered by the Baltimore Ravens 33 to 7. Now, no, NFL Preseason is not an accurate reflection of team performance during the year, but it is important none the less.

Cowboys Cooper Rush Catches Batted Pass, Throws Completion vs 49ers 2018 NFL Preseason

What Cooper Rush, Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback did in the 2018 NFL Preseason Game Against the San Francisco 49ers is not common and very notable. Taking over for Dak Prescott, Rush was in a spread formation on 2nd and 10 with 2:34 left in the 1st Quarter of the game. Rush barked the signals, and the ball was snapped to him - and went over his head by three feet! Cooper Rush did not at all hesitate. He caught the ball, set his feet for less than a second and then fired a pass a bit low to veteran receiver Terrance Williams. He caught it. It was just another routine moment in the life of Cooper Rush, who went on as if nothing happened. Could Marcus Mariota do that? Well, he did. In the 2017 AFC Wild Card game, too versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught his own touchdown pass. Not bad. Stay tuned.

SF Giants AT&T Park Should Give Left Over Food To Homeless

The SF Giants have thousands of pounds of food that they just throw away after each event at AT&T Park ballpark in San Francisco. The food that just goes unserved is of good quality and would feed many homeless or just hungry and poor people. It could be remade, I am sure. But the SF Giants should be made to set up a program working with the City and County of San Francisco. How do I know they have all of the food? Look at the video. This was at Rugby World Cup 7s two weeks ago. The man pushing the cart of high quality meats that must have been 40 pounds each told me they just throw out the food. How many establishments in San Francisco do this? How many thousands of pounds of food gets tossed? Each night? This has to stop. It’s not right. Stay tuned

A.P. Steadham Talks Visit To NFL Hall Of Fame, Terrell Owens, And Alabama Football

A.P. Steadham the veteran reporter on NFL and College Football stops by Zennie62 to talk NFL Hall Of Fame, Terrell Owners missing it, and gives us an Alabama Football update. A.P. Steadham shared with Zennie62 fans what it was like to attend the 2018 NFL Hall Of Fame Ceremony Induction and the NFL Hall Of Fame Game pitting the Chicago Bears against the Baltimore Ravens. A.P., who covers Alabama Football, pointed out that with Alabama Center Bradley Bozeman snapping to Louisville Lamar Jackson, there was the first Alabama Louisville center to QB connection, ever. Steadham also weighed in on the Terrell Owens controversy, where the famed NFL wide receiver elected to skip the NFL Hall Of Fame ceremonies and produce his own at Tennessee Chattanoga, his alma mater. "I thnk he made a mistake," said A.P. "You know," Earl Campbell (the record-setting running back they called "Tyler Rose") is using a walker. Owens is going to get old, and he's going to regret that he missed it." A.P. Aso talked about Alabama Football, mentioning that until the Crimson Tide gets their quarterback situation settled, it's hard to say how well they will do. And from the looks of things, Jalen Hurts comments in the media may have further distanced him from the starting job. "No one came up to me the whole spring, coaches included, no one asked me how I felt," Hurts said according to AL.com. "No one asked me what was on my mind. No one asked me how I felt about the things that were going on. Nobody asked me what my future held. That's that. So now it's like when we try to handle the situation now, for me, it's kind of late, it's too late. The narrative has already been created." Stay tuned.

Ray Lewis NFL HOF Speech, Oakland Raiders Cut Cal Kicker, Broncos Cortland Sutton Shines

Zennie Abraham talked with Zennie62 on YouTube Livestream fans about the excellent Ray Lewis NFL Hall Of Fame Speech, and how much he captivated America. Then the livestream talk turned to the Oakland Raiders cutting kicker Giorgio Tavecchio, and his view that the Silver and Black made a mistake in passing on SMU wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Abraham says he told Oakland Raiders General Manager Reggie MacKenzie that the SMU pass-catcher would be an all-pro in his rookie year. As of today, reports out of Denver Broncos Training Camp are that Sutton is creating a lot of buzz. Meanwhile Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden said that Martavis Bryant must "play better" and be more versatile - in other words, learn all of the pass-catching positions and what they do or are asked to do in each play. The Raiders traded for Bryant, rather than pick Sutton, specifically. Zennie62 Livestream fan "Bible Study" pointed to the problem Marquette King, the former Raiders Punter, had with Broncos media: physically going after one personality at Broncos Training Camp. It's hard enough being a press person without the threat of physical harm - there's no need for that on King's part. Abraham also talked about yet another problem with the Oakland Raiders Las Vegas Stadium: the much-talked-about monorail extension is stalled due to lack of funding. Stay tuned.

Dak Prescott National Anthem Controversy Proves Message About Police Brutality Is Lost

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys QB, is being called a “sellout for supporting the National Anthem and rejecting protest. Ok? So? He’s American. Did everyone forget the real issue here? I always thought the idea was to bring attention to police brutality against black Americans? What is going on that we, including the media, have forgotten that? Those calling Dak Prescott A sellout are just being mean. Aside from the fact that there is far too much meanness in American society today, they are flat wrong. While I disagree with Dak, he Has the right to have that position as a black, white, Latino, Asian, or whatever American. Just as President Donald Trump has the right to support flag burning, which he did do before he ran for President. So what? The real point is what are we going to do to stop police brutality against blacks in America? Each time we go into a talk about the anthem, we miss the point. Look, you could be called a sellout for not mentioning the police brutality problem. That would include you, Dak, and pretty much everyone. Please stop the noise. Use the anthem talk to bring new attention to the police brutality issue. Talk it. Change it. Stay tuned.

Andrew Sullivan Column Saying Sarah Jeong Is Racist Is Both Right And Wrong

Andrew Sullivan hates that Sarah Jeong is on the New York Times Editorial Board, and because, he writes, that she's racist. In his “When Racism Is Fit to Print” column on the website of The New York Times, Mr. Sullivan rants “A series of tweets from 2013 to 2015 reveal a vicious hatred of an entire group of people based only on their skin color. If that sounds harsh, let’s review a few, shall we? “White men are bullshit,” is one. A succinct vent, at least. But notice she’s not in any way attacking specific white men for some particular failing, just all white men for, well, existing. Or this series of ruminations: “have you ever tried to figure out all the things that white people are allowed to do that aren’t cultural appropriation. there’s literally nothing. like skiing, maybe, and also golf. white people aren’t even allowed to have polo. did you know that. like don’t you just feel bad? why can’t we give white people a break. lacrosse isn’t for white people either. it must be so boring to be white.” Or this: “basically i’m just imagining waking up white every morning with a terrible existential dread that i have no culture.” Those Sarah Jeong posts, taken alone, would be strong evidence of racism, without question. But because Andrew Sullivan doesn't know the difference between “racism” and the act of being what I called “race conscious”, he makes the mistake of throwing the entire mix of Sarah Jeong tweets together into what he might call one giant bag of racism. One example of what I am saying is provided by Sullivan and from Ms. Jeong: ““Dumbass fucking white people marking up the internet with their opinions like dogs pissing on fire hydrants.” That is not pointing to all white people and saying they are a something – what Ms. Jeong is doing is describing an observed action by some who she says are white. That's the act of being “race conscious” and not “racist” - she's not putting down an entire group of people, so much as she's complaining about an action she sees certain people doing who are white. Indeed, Sullivan himself wrote that Sarah Jeong expressed remorse for her take, and appologized for words that may have hurt anyone's feelings. Good enough for me. And here is where I hold that Andrew Sullivan, as well as those who tend to be white and react to any comment pointing out a habit done by a subset of a group of people identified by race by saying such comments are racist, are not only wrong, but could be accused of trying to stop others from pointing out racism. Let me give you an example, using a problem I blogged about in Oakland 12 years ago. In 2006, there was a spate of reported crimes committed against white women around Lake Merritt. Sadly, the persons who tended to do the criminal acts were young and black. I pointed that out in a blog post on my Oakand Focus blog at the time. For example, there was this mugging attempt https://ift.tt/2ACgz0H. But then, the same year, I used my Oakland Focus blog (Oakland's first blog) to complain about a racist incident at Easy Bar on Lakeshore (which has since closed and given way to a new place called “The Cat House” at 3255 Lakeshore). https://ift.tt/2vhvUyy But back then, I wrote “A 1998 poll conducted by the San Francisco Chronicle seems still to apply here in 2006. It reported that 62 percent of African American residents experienced an example of racism in restaurants and stores, where only 10 percent of whites, 32 percent of Asians and 41 percent of Latinos did. Notice that the percentage increases as the color of the skin darkens. That's not by accident. A person who only identified herself as an "white woman Adams Point resident" chimed in to explain away the incident -- and she wasn't in the room at all. This is crazy. What sickens me more than anything is that if I tell anyone who's black about this, I get a sympathetic ear, yet the rate of white or non-black Oaklanders who seem to "get it" ranges about 50 percent - a coin flip. That's nuts. What's lost in all this from the "explainers" is that not one -- not one person - bothered to ask me what happened; they just fire off with their steady stream of "maybes" as in "Maybe he this,..." Since then, 12 years have passed, and judging by Andrew Sullivan's post, American society still has a long way to go. There should not a climate where a person can't point out racist actions – from that perspective, Ms. Jeong was right. If you see just some of the examples of racist and sexist trolling she has endured, you'd understand why she went off. But, and again, she did appologize. Now, Andrew Sullivan should express that he understands her pain – he has not done that. Andrew Sullivan's behind the times, but he's right about Sarah Jeong's expressed racism, and wrong for not understanding what racism is. Stay tuned.

NFL Hall Of Fame: Ravens Lamar Jackson Has Good First NFL Game, RGIII Looks Good

The 2018 NFL Hall of Fame Game is in the books, and the Baltimore Ravens won an entertaining contest 17 to 16. The top story was about Lamar Jackson: the 2016 Heisman Trophy Winner and Louisville QB Star didn't disappoint. While he finished with passer stats that were poor, his actual outing was better than the 4 of 10 for 31 yards would imply - and at one point he was 3 of 4 for 21 yards, and then throw a TD pass. Jackson was also the Ravens second leading rusher, with 3 carries for 25 yards - just over a 6 yard-per-carry average. But it's clear the Chicago Bears were expecting Jackson, and threw the defensive kitchen sink at him: safety blitzes, linebacker dogs to stop the waggle pass, and man-for-man with those blitzes. It's also clear that the Ravens didn't have built in adjustments for Jackson to call, and spent way too much time working on Jackson the rusher, and not Jackson the passer. As Lamar Jackson discovered, he's not going to be able to outrun NFL defenses all the time and the Bears were plenty quick to the ball. It's also obvious that the Chicago Bears own passing game, guided by 6th year NFL QB Tyler Bray, did have those adjustments, and "look-in" patterns, allowing quick down field completions. Interestingly, the Ravens had something of a more advanced set of plays for the veteran Robert Griffin III to run - and ran then well, he did. RGIII finished 7 for 11 for 58 yards, one TD and one interception. After the game, RGIII told NFL Network's Steve Wyche that he was happy to be back in control of an offense and having to read defenses "on the fly." It's a new RGIII, with shorter hair and the demeanor of a politician. RGIII for President? Stay tuned.

601 City Center Oakland At Art & Soul Festival 2018

The 2018 Art & Soul Festival took up all of Oakland City Center when it was held last weekend. That includes the under construction new office building 601 City Center. The mammoth 601 City Center is Shorenstein Properties new addition to Oakland. Slated for completion in 2019, it has 400,000 square feet of Class A office space. It also effectively finishes Oakland City Center, as its the last large planned building to be built in the 30 year old complex. For the Art & Soul Festival, 601 City Center combined with the Ask Building to form a kind of bookend stage for the concert set on the ground level. A celebration of Oakland’s new downtown as much as it was of the performers and the people who attended the event. Stay tuned.

ATL Next Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Expansion Progresses

The $6 billion ATL Next Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Expansion Project is progressing. The centerpiece of the giant upgrade are two terminal-length canopies that are (by this vlogger’s measure) 30 percent complete. Already, the intent of the addition can be seen and felt: it’s raining now and yet far less water has hit the pavement outside the North Terminal. At 30 percent complete, this is an exciting change! Aside from the rain shield, the other parts of the plan are slowly taking shape: added parking is coming as are more T-Gates,but the atrium is finished and glorious. The overall objective of having a more passenger-friendly place to fly into and out of is being achieved, slowly but deliberately. Stay tuned.

Oakland A’s Stomper Statues Celebrate 50th Anniversary Of Team In Oakland

The Kingfish Bar Oakland A’s Stomper is designed as a classic A’s mascot, whereas the Library one (just 20 feet away) is in the form of Robin from Batman And Robin, and called “Bat Boy.” That’s all awesome but who pays for this?
