“Keep It Oakland” is a movement that was already there but now has been accelerated by the Oakland Indie Alliance. The intent, as explained to me by Amy Hillyard, co-owner of Farley’s East Cafe in Uptown Oakland, is to support and promote The Town’s native entrepreneurs. Amy explained that the Oakland Indie Alliance hired an agency to establish the promotional campaign (it should have called Zennie62Media for help, but I digress). Oakland Art & Soul Festival NFL Zennie62 Fans Give Oakland Raiders 2018 Predictions
How do you think the Oakland Raiders will do with Jon Gruden at the helm of the organization for at least the 2018 NFL Season? That’s the question I asked Zennie62 on YouTube fans I met at the Oakland Art & Soul Festival on Saturday. What shocked me was one man said the Raiders would do no better than .500 or 8 and 8. Eight wins and eight losses. Of course, some, like ESPN’s Colin Cowherd, had the Raiders finishing dead last in the AFC for the 2018 NFL Season. Personally, I think the Raiders will finish at 10 Wins and 6 losses. The offense will be different and Bill Walsh-based - you can see that in the practice videos. Moreover with all of that talent on defense and under a new single gap scheme, they will be better than the six and ten of 2017. But the Raiders better Sign Khalil Mack, or this prediction is going to go down to 9 and 7. Stay tuned.

New Peet’s Coffee In Downtown Oakland Gives Zennie62 Free Pastries
The new Peet’s Coffee In Downtown Oakland at 1615 Broadway, is quite the meeting place for Uptown. Located right where Broadway and Telegraph Avenue meet, I’ve ran into everyone from Jesse Smith, who’s running for Mayor of Oakland, to Kenzie Smith, who’s running for the Oakland City Council District Two Seat, to Steve Snider of the Downtown Oakland Business Improvement District. It’s already a true community center. They’re also nice people. The folks who worked there had zero idea I was a media guy when they asked me if I wanted to take home some pastries! It was Saturday and I just happened to walk in after the Art & Soul Festival and wanted to upload a vlog over coffee before going over to my godparents for dinner. So, I thought of the two people who would most enjoy such a large haul outside of my Mom in Georgia. It was a very nice gesture. By the way, the coffee is good, too! Stay tuned.

Mission Impossible Fallout Review At Grand Lake Theater Oakland
In Mission Impossible Fallout, Tom Cruise manages to do what James Bond would never do: make being a secret agent look like a thankless job. In the process he made the best mission impossible movie of the series. In paring with Superman Henry Cavill (who can’t quite make you think he is someone other than Clark Kent) Cruise always has to watch his back. And then there is Alec Baldwin. In playing Tom Cruise boss in the Impossible Mission Force, Alec Baldwin communicates that while he says he is supporting Tom Cruise who is Ethan Hunt, he also makes it clear he is willing to turn him in to suit his own purposes. And then there is Rebecca Thompson. The amazing action actress appears throughout the film. But it’s not clear why she is in the movie until near the end. The only two people Tom Cruise can trust are Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames. Cruise can’t even trust CIA Director Angela Bassett. All of that combined with incredible special effects, Makes for an edge-of-your-seat movie. In fact Mission Impossible: Fallout has so many special effects it might as well be a science-fiction movie. Not less than eight special effects houses were employed to pull off some incredible scenes and stunts. If it’s not in the running for an Oscar for visual effects, something is wrong with Hollywood. Overall, it’s an incredible summer movie, well worth the price of admission. But before I conclude I have to say that Sean Harris plays one of the scariest action movie villains ever. Stay tuned.

Oakland Coliseum JPA Livestream For July 27th Meeting - Raiders Lease The meeting was marked by a discussion of how much money the Coliseum was making. Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty was insistent that the financial report did not show all of the monies made over the last fiscal year. It made for a tense moment and a promise to issue a revised report. Also, the XFL in Oakland Matter his a snag because the Coliseum could not work out a agreement with the Oakland A’s on dates. Coliseum JPA Executive Director Scott McKibben said that he approached Cal Berkeley about having XFL games there. This is still an open and unresolved matter. Then there is the Alameda County Grand Jury Ticket Scandal. The Coliseum JPA believes that the Grand Jury is taking a stance that Supervisor Haggerty described as “subjective”. That said, the decision was to form a committee that consists of four of the JPA Commissioners and two outside representatives. The Raiders lease matter is still up in the air. No report was made. Charlie Casserly’s Dez Bryant Comments On NFL Network Were Stupid
Charlie Casserly, the NFL Network Analyst and former General Manager of The Washington Redskins, made some really stupid and seemingly personal comments about Dez Bryant on the broadcast of Thursday evening. In an obvious rush to prove that Bryant is not the wide receiver he used to be with the Dallas Cowboys, Casserly used an example that made me wonder if he actually knew football. Charlie used an example from the Cowboys vs Rams game of last year where Dallas lined up three wide receivers to the left with Dez Bryant as the middle slot pass catcher in the group of three: the outside receiver ran an up pattern, the inside-most receiver a kind of look-in patterned to the middle of the defense, and Bryant a slant pattern to the middle of the defense. Guess what? The Rams has Dez pattern covered with two inside linebackers and the free safety in the middle. But Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw the ball to Dez anyway. And it was a split second late throwing it. So it was a tick behind Dez - when Dez went to catch the ball he tipped it. Casserly says that because he did that Dez lost a step. Wow. What should have happened was the play should have allowed Dez the option of running a five yard out - away from the defense and that area of the field was wide open. The play design was just stupid. But obviously Casserly doesn’t know enough football to see that. Sadly Dez has to be subjected to this kind of abuse. Charlie should be ashamed of himself. NFL Network too. Stay tuned.

Rick DeSilva is the President of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Of Commerce and Partner in Loh Realty and Investments. He's also someone I've know since 1997, when I worked as Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris Economic Advisor. I literally ran into Rick at the July 24th Oakland City Council Meeting where the Downtown / Uptown Business Improvement District was approved for another 10 years of life. If you're wondering what the Business Improvement District , or what a Business Improvement District is and does, it takes advantage of what's called Mello - Roos Financing as passed by a legislation called Mello-Roos, or the 1982 The Mello-Roos Community Facilities District Act. The The Mello-Roos Community Facilities District Act happens when 2/3rds of the property owners in a drawn special boundary of any shape or size vote to tax themselves. The purpose of the The Mello-Roos Community Facilities District Act use in the Downtown Oakland case happened as an outgrowth of concerns about vandalism and security in the Downtown Oakland area in 1999. Oakland has several BIDs: Downtown Oakland Association, Fruitvale Business Improvement District , Jack London Improvement District, Koreatown/Northgate BID, Laurel District Association, Lakeshore Avenue Business Improvement District, Montclair Village Association, Rockridge District Association, Temescal/Telegraph, and Lake Merritt/Uptown Association. As Rick explains in the video, the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Of Commerce is a kinds of watch-dog organization over the Downtown Oakland BIDs. He has concerns over how Oakland development has encroached on Chintatown, and that, combined with the high-minimum wage ordinance has combined to hurt the small independent businesses that give Oakland Chinatown its character, and leave it to be changed by giant chain retailer and restaurant operators. From old childhood friends to the Mayor, current District 4 Councilwoman and firefighters, and the countless union members and neighbors with whom I have spent time—your vote of confidence in me has been incredibly uplifting and inspiring. Today I want to share something personal. For the past few years, Sam and I have been trying to conceive a second child. We’ve wanted nothing more than to give our son, Elijah, a lifelong friend and companion. Just as we lost hope, a miracle was delivered: recently, we learned that Sam is pregnant! Ms Hirschfield has been impacted by what she calls the “takeover” of scooters around the Lake. The Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 SF was a dramatic success, and according to sources, over 123,000 people came to watch rugby sevens in a new format. But who make the food for the winning All-Blacks and Black Ferns and the other 40 competing teams? Oakland's Nybll, lead by its co-founder Chef Kristen Thibeault, created amazing and healthy food dishes. On the Saturday this vlog was made, Chef Kristen Thibeault said they made... 3200 meals, and served 470 lbs chicken, 470 lbs salmon, 600 lbs tri-tip, 16 cases (640 lbs) sweet potatoes, 400 smoothies, 240 rotisserie chickens (in addition to jerk chicken). New Zealand All-Blacks, Black Ferns, Take Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 SF Perry Baker of USA Rugby said that he didn’t think of the All-Blacks when I asked him if he was tired of all of the talk about them in our interview. Well, after both the All-Blacks and their female version called The Black Ferns crushed their opposition, Mr. Baker has to spend another few contests pretending like they don’t at all exist, when not only does everyone else know they do, they are hailed by some as the best ever. The New Zealand All-Blacks clobbered England 33 to 12. And just when Her Majesty’s team looked like it was going to make a game of it, The All Blacks made two scoring drives that were of such intimidating power, they had to be seen to be believed. England defenders were bouncing off All-Blacks ball carriers and in a fashion that was purely comical. England men looked smaller and for all the world played smaller. While the same could not be said for the Black Ferns, was of equal note was their very physical high leg power running style. They keep their legs moving like pistons, even with hard and direct tackle attempts. That style calls for amazing leg power and so gives away one possible edge the Black Ferns and All Blacks have: training style. In all New Zealand was a model for consistency. While Fiji was far and away the crowd favorite, and their fans bragged of a “dream team”, that claim was reduced to nothing more than a cruel joke. The dream was destroyed and replaced by the tough reality of New Zealand Rugby Sevens superiority. Stay tuned.

But on this weekend and this World Championship Sunday, the Tonga rugby star said he would rather be playing down there on the field, than watching in the stands. As the story goes, Pita Taumoepenu grew up with his mother's family 3,000 miles away from island of Tongatapu, which is the main island in the Tongan archipelago. Rugby World Cup CEO Brett Gosper On Rugby World Cup Sevens SF 2018
Brett Gosper, Rugby World Cup CEO, came to the press room to hold an impromptu press conference. The video above has the full conversation; here are some highlights of what he said. Much of the talk was around the "knockout" format. As the Associated Press put it "A new format for the seventh championship starting on Friday in San Francisco has dumped pool play and gone straight to knockout rounds, seemingly to appeal to a perceived shorter attention span of American fans." If that's the case, it worked. The total attendance is 123,000. On the Knockout format and the 2019 World Rugby World Cup. "We'll look at it for next year - it's a bit of an experiment this year. This format lends itself to a combined (male female) tournament." Gosper doesn't think this format is the only way to get that combination and says that they will evaluate it. He says that all of that will be resolved as well, as the selection of new venues, by September of this year. "The desire is to innovate as much as we can," Gosper said. Ricky Ricardo Host Of Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Fans Party At Ricky’s Jon Gruden threw the Oakland Raiders Fans Party, but his co-host was Ricky Ricardo (with his wife Tina Ricardo) the owner of Ricky's Sports Theater and Grill in San Leandro. Believe it or not, folks, for all of the Raiders games I've attended. For all of the work that I did in trying to bring the Super Bowl to Oakland, I've only visited Ricky's once - and I had a good time some years ago. So, the Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders Fans Party was my one chance to make up for this massive deficiency in life, and in a big way. For those of you who may not know Ricky's Sports Theater and Grill in San Leandro, first it's located at 15028 Hesperian Blvd in San Leandro, California. Second, it's kinda like a cool place you might see if Walt Disney were an Oakland Raiders Fan: it has neat nooks and crannys, and then larger meeting rooms, and yet it's a bit of a maze you like getting lost in. It has 90 televisions, but they're dotted all over so you can talk and really not miss the action. It's hard to explain unless you experience the place. For Oakland Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden, Ricky wore the "Jon 317" Raiders t-shirt. For those of you not well-versed in The Bible, John 3:17 says "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." Translated, it means that Ricky and many Raiders fans thank God and Mark Davis for sending Jon Gruden to be the coach. For all of the rightful blasting Davis gets about the Las Vegas relocation effort, hiring Jon Gruden was a move that (save for a rather sad statement against USC Offensive Coordinator Tee Martin and regarding The Rooney Rule), Davis got right. The legendary Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel is the Official Headquarters For Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 SF. And within the hotel, the first floor is the unofficial hang out area for some of the best rugby players in the world to meet their fans. Or play air hockey in the ballroom, as some were doing. I talked with two fans who made the trip from Columbia to San Francisco for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018, and were seeking autographs for a rugby ball they brought with them. They favored Fiji to win the Rugby World Cup, having formed the much talked about dream team for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018. Today is the first official day of play at Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018.
